another colette laurel; the start of my autumn sewing.

hi everyone! I’m using a new app to blog with because the wifi on my laptop is being completely unreliable, so I’m sorry if the formatting is off, I’m still making my way through the tutorial videos! also, typing on my iPad is more difficult than I thought it would be…! so it’s a new dress but a pattern I’ve used a couple of times before for me to show

the sewing silence is over…

THE SILENCE IS OVER.   i’m yabbering on about an ACTUAL garment i’ve made; i’m as blown away as you are!   i posted a little while ago about not feeling much like making clothes.  a combination of a lack of time (which hasn’t stopped me in the past) a lack of inspiration (although i’ve got some nice fabric waiting to be used!) and just a lack of willpower.

holiday moneta!

bonjour everyone!   today i present to you my favourite example of pattern placement to date; my 3rd moneta!   i made this dress last weekend when we went to visit my boyfriend’s grandparents.  i’d told his grandma about my overlocker and she asked me to take it with me for a sewing lesson, best ever!   it’s safe to say, she now wants an overlocker!

finished – my second archer

hello everyone!   I’m proud to introduce you to my second version of grainline studio’s archer button down shirt.     i love this shirt.  as you can see, i’ve lengthened it considerably from the pattern pieces.  i wanted it to be long so it would be suitable to wear with leggings.     I bought my fabric from the rag market during sewbrum. it was £3 a metre and

blog hop!

hey everyone!   i’ve been nominated by mel at made by melanie to take part in the blog hop – thanks mel!   so without further ado…   why do you write?   i started my blog so i had somewhere to display my makes in an effort to “keep me on track”.  i’ve got a habit of getting involved in hobbies and makes then i just forget about them.  or

musing about advancing my sewing skill set…

this is a text heavy post, it’s mostly me thinking outloud, so read at your own peril.   i’ve been sewing seriously since january.  i bought myself a “real” sewing machine, a janome 525s, and haven’t really looked back.     i starting sewing things i’d seen on other people’s blogs that i liked.  for instance, the colette hawthorne dress; i look at that now and i hate it, it

coco, a new autumn favourite.

hello!   today, i have something cute (in my unbiased opinion!) to share with you, my coco!   i bought my fabric from minerva crafts, they sent fantastic email updates (and tweets!) and the fabric was here within a couple of days of ordering it.  in all honesty, the green looks like a much brighter green on the website, but i still like it.  bit more autumnal that i anticipated.

organising my sewing things…

hello internet!   it was my birthday two days ago (yay!  i’m now the ripe old age of 23) and i got some money from various aunties, uncles and family friends, so i thought it called for some sewing shopping.   i went to my favourite sneaky hidden shop, and picked up a couple of things.  a pink chalk wheel, some thread to make my sew over it 1940’s tea

poorly sewing machine

oh internet, I’m full of woe. my sewing machine is broken 🙁 it keeps shredding the top thread, then because it’s shredding it, the thread keeps snapping!  I can see some thread wrapped round a part inside, took off some of the casing (as much as I dared!) and got some out but there is still a fair bit stuck, I don’t even know how it got trapped there. now

finished – a stripy colette moneta, a sewing related discovery and a birmingham sewing meet up

hi everyone!   after my success of the first moneta i made the other day, i thought i would make another one!  it’s the first pattern i’ve done that with so far.  probably because it’s so quick to make!   this time i chose a lighter knit fabric from ebay.  the quality isn’t wonderful, but what did i expect for 3 metres for £11 eh.  my thread was cheap too.
